Grade rounding in the gradebook
-
Grades for individual items in the gradebook are rounded to the hundredth place.
-
Overall grades and grading period grades are calculated using unrounded values.
Grading category calculation methods
Each grading category can be calculated using either total points or percentages.
|
Calculation method |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Total Points |
The category grade is the total points earned divided by the total points possible. |
|
Percentage |
The category grade is based on the percentage scores of individual items. |
Overall grade calculation process
When calculating the grading period or overall grade, unrounded values are used to ensure accuracy.
Example calculation
A student has the following grades in two categories.
|
Category |
Weight |
Assignments |
Category grade calculation |
Unrounded value used |
|
Homework |
50% |
12/13 11/13 |
(12 + 11) ÷ 26 × 100 = 88.46% |
88.46153846% |
|
Quizzes |
50% |
15/17 |
15 ÷ 17 × 100 = 88.24% |
88.23529412% |
Final overall grade calculation
Using unrounded values, the overall grade is calculated as:
(50 × 88.46153846 + 50 ×88.23529412) ÷ (50 + 50)
= 8834.841629 ÷ 100
= 88.35%
This method ensures that rounding does not impact the final grade.
